“Fools Gold” isn’t worthless as the name would have you believe. In fact this couldn’t be further from the truth. In the American West the largest gold finds are accompanied by heavy deposits of Iron Pyrite or Fools Gold”. It is true that many early prospectors looked for fools gold as a predictor of where “real gold” could be found. Did you know that gold, real gold, is found in most pyrite deposits around the world? If it’s a major pyrite deposit and if there is a large enough percentage of gold, then it may be mined for its gold content, as well as iron and sulfur. There is another major predictor, that if found with “Fools Gold”, will almost certainly indicate substantial gold nearby.
